Is losing weight an important health goal?

Advertisements, pop culture and even doctors can talk about health and weight as if they are one and the same: smaller bodies are healthier, and larger bodies must be unhealthy.

A higher body mass index (BMI) is associated with conditions like diabetes and heart disease, said Philipp Scherer, professor of internal medicine and director of the Touchstone Diabetes Center at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. However, BMI is a controversial way to measure health, and it’s just one of many factors associated with changes in a person’s well-being, said Dr. Asher Larmie, a UK-based general practitioner and activist.

Still, we often place a lot of importance on a person’s appearance when assessing their health, said Shana Minei Spence, a registered dietitian in New York. And even if we learn to shed the burden of societal beauty standards, it can be difficult to feel confident in your body if you

Yankees retire Paul O’Neill’s No. 21 jersey, Cashman booed | Health and Fitness

By LARRY FLEISHER – Associated Press

NEW YORK (AP) — Eight years ago, Paul O’Neill was thanked by the Yankees for his contributions to their dynasty with a plaque in Monument Park.

On Sunday, the Yankees retired his No. 21 — the 23rd player or manager in the franchise to have that happen.

This ceremony was slightly different from others.

Because he is not vaccinated against COVID-19, O’Neill couldn’t interact with any current New York players in the dugout. And with the Yankees stuck in a 4-14 rut, there were noticeable boos for managing general partner Hal Steinbrenner and general manager Brian Cashman during the 33-minute ceremony.

New York’s first jersey retirement ceremony since 2017, when Derek Jeter’s No. 2 was honored, had the usual video tributes and messages, gifts and an acceptance speech.

That means staying focused on proteins and carbohydrateswhich are basic nutritional building blocks, Cary noted.

Some high-fiber carbohydrate options including whole wheat bread, brown rice, whole wheat pasta, beans and fruit. Lean protein choices are canned chicken and tuna, boiled eggs, lean deli meat and yogurt.

The Lafayette City Council and Parish Council were notified Friday morning via email from City-Parish Attorney Greg Logan that Mayor-President Josh Guillory was back in town. Friday’s announcement comes 18 days after the initial statement about his plan to seek treatment was issued, news outlets reported.

The mayor-president, who has been in office since January 2020, served in the military in Iraq, where he “fought on the front lines in active combat.” In a news release, Guillory said he had turned to alcohol to relieve stress at the end of the day and that had begun to interfere with interpersonal relationships, particularly with his family.
