According to the National Institute of Mental Health, the most common mental health illness in the United States is anxiety. There are an estimated 40 million individuals in the United States who have anxiety. Although anxiety disorders can be easily treated, only one-third of individuals with anxiety seek treatment.
What is Anxiety?
Those with anxiety will typically feel worried, nervous, or uneasy about any events in their lives that do not have determined outcomes. Although it is a natural response to feel some of these emotions, these feelings can escalate and have an impact on sleeping, eating, or socializing, which is known as an anxiety disorder.
Those with anxiety disorders may display obsessive-compulsive behaviors, develop phobias, and have panic attacks. These individuals may also have problems sleeping and avoid social gatherings. An anxiety disorder will have a direct impact on an individual’s day-to-day functions.
